Mr. John A. F. Cole’s distinguished career spanned over 50 years in the Cole’s Printery family business, where he became managing director. He also served two decades as a director of Casuarina Beach Club Ltd.

In the 1950’s he worked with publishing companies in the U.K and later returned to Barbados and instituted printing processes that helped to revolutionise the local printing industry.

He was appointed to the board of the Barbados Development Bank in 1988, and later to the Board of Hotels & Resorts Ltd. He was made an Independent Senator in 1991 and Deputy Chairman of the Barbados Tourism Authority that year. He served as President of the Barbados National Trust and as Chairman of Bush Hill Tourism Trust Inc., the institution which restored George Washington House.

Mr. Cole was a trustee of the Dyslexia Foundation and Codrington High School. An avid sportsman, he represented his club and Barbados in various sporting disciplines. He received the Barbados Centennial Honour for his service inthe printing industry and the Gold Crown of Merit for civicduty and for his contributions in tourism and printing. He is adirector of Consumers’ Guarantee Insurance and a patron of the arts.
